Jazz Urbane Community Arts Transformation

JU-CAT enlivens, strengthens, and transforms intergenerational communities through performances, artistic creation, and innovative educational programming. We believe that education, cultural history, and art expression lift minds and change lives.

Pillars

Three ways we build community through art

JU-CAT operates through three interconnected pillars that guide our work in the Greater Boston community.

Percussion Performance

Abstract Musical Composition

Transform through cultural futurism

Restorative arts-centered engagement that heals, elevates, and cultivates healthy ways of living together.

About JU-CAT

A home for culture, creativity, and community

JU-CAT is a nonprofit community hub based in the heart of Roxbury and Nubian Square. In partnership with the JazzUrbane Café, we deepen and expand the experience of music, food, storytelling, and education to spark creativity, enliven communities, and cultivate future generations of artist-citizens.

JU-CAT activates spaces where everyone is welcome—transforming the JazzUrbane Café into a vibrant cultural anchor where much of our programming begins. Together, JU-CAT and the Café co-create experiences that celebrate local artistry, nourish intergenerational connection, and inspire collective joy. From there, JU-CAT expands into local schools, performance venues, and public spaces—turning them into living classrooms of art, culture, and belonging.

Educational Programming

We design challenge-based learning experiences for youth, young adults, and mature adults that teach artistic thinking and cultural literacy. These programs happen in schools, community centers, and neighborhood spaces.

Artist Development

Our mentorship and training cultivates emerging and professional musicians, culinary artists, and performers. We help artists understand their role as cultural citizens and expand their gifts with strategic placement.

Consulting and Partnership

We work with arts organizations, schools, and civic groups to build sustainable cultural programming. Our consulting draws on deep community knowledge and contemporary arts practice.
